Here in PA you buy the right to make a (possible) future claim for pain and suffnrieg due to a car accident.Limited Tort is cheaper, and means you can't sue for pain and suffnrieg due to an auto accident unless your injuries breach a certain threshold, the general rule being, severe, permanent, and/or disfiguring. Ergo, if all you have is soft tissue (whiplash) you wouldn't have the right to more than your medical bills and wage loss. No extra money. Facial scarring, lose a spleen, other serious injuries you'd be allowed even if you only paid for Limited Tort.Full Tort, more expensive, allows you to present a claim regardless of the severity of the injury bruises to broken bones, whiplash to sprains. It doesn't GUARANTEE a claim, mind you, just allows you the right to present one.All insurance is a gamble, really. You have to balance the odds of something happening against how you would feel after it did happen. But your call, it's a personal decision. You can always sign up one way and change your mind later.
